Food was average to below average and expensive. Nearly every dish involved ordering 'sides'. Waffle (1) was flat and soggy. But, this wasn't the bad part. I've never had such RUDE service! It's a small, crowded place with 2 or 3 waitresses. (Although I did see the cook serving, too. At least she was nice). One young girl sat us. I had to later ask for menus. I asked her for coffee and never received it. 10-15 minutes later I approached the breakfast counter to inquire how I order. The older waitress told me, in a sharp tone, "No, you don't order here. Where are you sitting?" She took our order, reprimanded my teen daughter for not speaking clearly and off she went. Later delivered food and was clearly frustrated with no place to set her tray on our table. When my other teen asked about her side of sausage we received another nasty answer "I don't have any room on my tray, do I?" Then at the next table we heard her complain about all the rude people coming in today. I never did get my coffee.

Overall, the Carroll House was nothing special. The food was rather cheap, but it wasn't that good. The place is really small. Very forgettable place. They're only open until 2 pm as well.

The lack of greeting at the door should have been a prime indicator to turn and run. We sat and waited for fifteen minutes before a waiter came to ask us what we wanted to drink, but took another five to get the menus. Most restaurants give five to ten minutes for you to read over the menu and decide but Carroll's is extra generous with 15 minutes. It was another 30 minutes until we got the food which was okay at best. Save yourself the time and skip this "cute" breakfast house. PS: A number of regular customers came in after we had ordered and had their food and left before we got ours. Clearly they don't care about new customers.

You can count on the Carroll House for the best (and maybe only) place for greasy spoon dining in Door County. If you're not hungover or looking for a highly caloric meal, stick with their waffles as a safe choice. Anything else will do if you are the former or latter!

We went here because the places closer to our condo were too busy, and we will definitely be back!! They talk up the waffles, and they are no joke! Throw some cherry's and whipped cream on top and you have a speical treat, definitely check this place out!

Delicious waffles! Cute souvenir t-shirts. Our waiter, Vladimir, was very nice and attentive. Only took away one star because it was pretty loud inside. But it was packed full so that makes sense! We were greeted and seated right away, we sat up at the counter.

I rarely complain about service, but this place was definitely one of the worst! Clearly they are understaffed with a morning crowd. Once we ordered out waitress never checked on us, and it was near impossible to get a refill on your $4 coffee! In fact many people were grabbing the pot and serving themselves. Our table requested some hot sauce and syrup (which was not brought with the french toast or waffles), and after we waited for quite some time, we walked up to the counter and asked again. Still hot sauce was not brought until third request and at that point the food was already getting cold. One waitress in particular was extremely rude! She snapped at one table with, "do you see anymore room on this tray" when they politely inquired about a missing side. When another couple sat down and asked if the table was okay to sit at she responded with "I don't know when you're going to get served," or something of that nature. The food was mediocre; nothing special. It was very over priced once you add anything to your meal (i.e. hash browns, ham, etc.). We paid over $55 for four people! When we went to pay our bill nobody asked how our food or service was. I think it's safe to say, I will not be returning.

They need more than one person to take the orders and check people out. No greeting, after standing there the woman behind he counter told us to sit anywhere with a clean table. That was pretty easy to find. It took a bit for her to get to our table, we wanted coffee, she had to check some people out at the cash register, take care of others, then she was able to make it back to our table with menus - then asked us decaf right? Came back with coffee right away, we took advantage and ordered right away so we would not have to wait too long for her to come back. The veggie omelette was very good, fluffy eggs, which is hard to find now a days. The main reason for the 3 stars, we had Door County Gift Certificates, at first she said they did not accept them, then she said she could take it but could not give change, she said because they are not paid for, explained to her that they were paid for and per the DC Visitors Bureau, yes they can give change back, she still would not agree to it. (This is something that will be taken to the DC Visitors Bureau. ) She stated she would have to talk to the owner about that. Anyway, Door County is a large tourist attraction, you should know the rules of the PRE PAID Gift Certificates. The bill was $27 and some change, we had a $50 gift certificate, that would have been a huge tip, which was not well deserved. Oh yeah, so we paid by cash, she was ready to close the drawer and she had to be reminded that we were owed change.

We ate here twice last week. Each time we were treated warmly and served promptly. But the main reason i am writing is because the waffles were amazing. I usually don't even like waffles but i will be trying to duplicate this recipe. We also had the potato pancakes and they were also delicious ,

I guess when you have a captive audience, it doesn't matter. This was a first for me: a dry omelet. How that is even possible I will never know. Very TIIIIIIIIIIIIINY place so it gets really crowded. Employees were very nice, but I was there for the food, which was a one time experience.

We so looked forward to this DC visit just to go to Carroll House again. On our last visit a few years back we had the best waffles here. I really hate to write this review but the waffles just aren't as good as they were in the past. New cook? New recipe? Idon't know but we were sadly disappointed. Trust me, the food here is pretty average. You will get a decent breakfast just nothing spectacular. We will go back when in Sister Bay but we won't be expecting the wonderful breakfasts we have had in the past. Actually we will try a few other places we heard about in Ephraim before coming back here.
